Greetings, Tomorrow at 10:50 ET I’ll be publishing the full post (including an audio recording) for my tune Working Girls for my paid subscribers. If you’d like to receive the full post (and all future posts in-full), kindly join my paid subscribers for $5.00 USD per month. A bad cappuccino to-go will cost you a fiver, which is pretty shocking. Anyway, here’s an excerpt from tomorrow’s post:
Great story. I remember the first time I heard The World Won't End very vividly. I won't go into my usual long-winded nostalgia trip, but as a musician, recording engineer and a music fan, that record (yes, I'm calling it a record) had a massive impact on me. It even directly inspired a song that we'd record for the next Curtain Society album called "Diver." It's still among my absolute favorite albums that I always know I can rely on when I don't know where I am or what I want to listen to.
Now that you mention Ivy, them being in that ad rings a bell. I saw them a few times at the Bay State hotel in Northampton. Really great band. I met Adam Schlesinger only a few times along the way. Crazy talented guy. RIP
I still remember buying The World Won’t End from a great CD store on the edge of the U. of Cincinnati campus. I think my brother bought the first Cosmic Rough Riders album and Super Furry Animals Rings Around The World on the same visit. A banner day for enduring music purchases.
The first Pernice Brothers song I ever heard was “Crestfallen”, included on a “Vox” magazine cover cassette (yes, a cassette). Such a beautiful song, and still a favourite. Thank you for starting this substack.
Same..sort of. Same song, but different compilation...think it was a CD from Uncut magazine. Been hooked ever since and lucky to have caught a few shows over the years, including Joe solo reading an excerpt from his book at the wonderful Tin Angel in Philly.
Might have been Ivy on that Volvo commercial.

SO talented. I loved Ivy. Apartment Life is up there on my favorites list as well.

Folks should subscribe. It's only the cost of a bad cappuccino, but without the shits. So far.
There’s still time.

Thanks for listening. I’ll try to get to “Crestfallen” before too long. Got to mix it up.
