Friends,
Got home from walking the dog this morning and felt like banging out a video for this song. I’m pretty sure I already did a full post for the song a while back, so if I did it’s in the archive. If it’s not there, I’ll do a full post for that song next.
Like I say in the video, this was something of an homage to the great Del Shannon. I always liked his hits growing up, but it wasn’t until the late 1990s that my late friend (and Rhino Records fixture) Gary Stewart got me into the deep cuts and demos. There’s some amazing stuff, and I highly recommend digging.
I think Del Shannon could have had a renaissance in the lo-fi indie rock world of the 1990s. A musician dreams about what it would have been like to work with musicians who came before and have passed. I often think about what it would have been like to be in a room with Del Shannon, a couple guitars and cheap microphones and a four-track cassette recorder. No stress, no expectations.
What about Del Shannon with Slint or The Grifters as his backing band. Or less lo-fi with The Sea And Cake as his band. Damn, I’d pay $15.99 for that bejewelboxed CD.
Anyway, please enjoy my homage to a great artist.
